This is a digital composition of a fisherman village in Makoko, located in Lagos, Nigeria. Many people visit this place to make content talking about how much of a slum it is, so why was I there?
Well, it wasn’t my idea but it was my first day out in the Lagos, learning how these photo streets work. I let my driver and fixer know that everywhere we go, the goal isn’t to take beautiful images or only of beautiful things. So I guess my fixer, Amos response was let me take you somewhere that’s pretty fucked up then!
We negotiated for about 45 minutes to walk around for about 15 minutes and photograph, all I asked was for some insight on how they survive these conditions, how are they protecting themselves? What they showed me in response was their community.
